Regional Toll, Domestic and International Spend
Each respondent is asked whether they use these specific services. For each positive response collected, the average monthly spend by provider and the estimate of voice versus data traffic are recorded.
Private/Dedicated Lines
For lines leased from telecommunications suppliers that provide private point-to-point communications within a company and do not provide access to the public switched network, the number of lines by type is gathered. Including:
T1 Lines
T3 Lines
Fractional T1 Lines
DSO Lines
Dedicated VGA (Tie)
Other Private / Lines Dedicate Lines
For each line type the following are collected: the provider(s); whether the line terminates in the local calling area, regional toll calling area or beyond; the average monthly spend on the various line types; percent split between voice and data.
Dedicated Facilities
For privately owned, dedicated facilities, such as private microwave or satellite systems, the DS0 line equivalents are determined, as well as the percentage of traffic that would be considered local, regional toll and long distance. The voice/data split is also established for these private networks.
800/WATS Service
If the respondent uses 800 or WATS service, the provider(s), average monthly spend, regional toll/long distance and voice/data splits are determined for both 800 and WATS services.
Wireless Service
For wireless service the type of service (e.g. PCS vs. Analog) and the provider(s) are established. For each provider the average monthly spend and data/voice split (if applicable) are determined.

Firmographics
The firmographics section determines such items as number of locations, headquarters status, and number of full-time employees at the location, in the nation and worldwide. We also establish type of building (e.g., sole occupant) in which the firm resides.

In order to validate self-reported results we also solicit copies of telecommunications bills from all survey respondents.
